Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan launches electric vehicle training for Kogi Central constituents
Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, senator representing Kogi Central, has announced the commencement of an electric motor vehicle (EMV) training programme for constituents under an operate-and-own model.
The senator said the initiative is part of the Kogi Central constituency development programme and is designed to create sustainable income opportunities, particularly for women and youths.
Akpoti-Uduaghan explained that the programme was earlier paused following a town hall meeting in Ihima, Okehi local government area, to allow for regulatory compliance and institutional structuring.
According to her, the pause enabled the registration of the EMV management company with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the training of electricians and technicians who will support vehicle maintenance and operations.
She said the CAC registration has now been completed, while the registration of the electric vehicles is ongoing. Deployment of the locally assembled vehicles will begin immediately after the final documentation processes.
Akpoti-Uduaghan noted that beneficiaries will commence commercial operations once deployment begins, adding that the programme is designed to combine skills development with asset ownership.
She also disclosed that a newly registered trust fund has been established to manage the EMV programme alongside other constituency assets, including the SNAU Foundation maternity centre and modern markets in Okene and Ihima.
The senator said the EMV technical training programme will train 100 eligible indigenes and residents of Kogi Central. Participants will receive practical instruction on the operation and maintenance of electric and solar-powered tricycles.
She added that successful trainees will have the opportunity to own and operate the vehicles as a source of long-term income.
Akpoti-Uduaghan urged interested applicants to follow the application guidelines provided in the officially released information materials.
