Woman Arrested for Beating One-Year-Old Son to Death
A woman in Kokori community, located in the Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State, has been arrested by police in Isiokolo for allegedly flogging her one-year-old son to death.
According to local sources, the incident occurred when the woman, said to be emotionally distressed, unleashed severe beatings on the child with a cane. The toddler did not survive the assault despite efforts by neighbours to intervene. Residents rushed the baby to a hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Witnesses in the community described the woman as deeply frustrated and claimed she had been struggling emotionally and financially since the father of the child, a man suspected to be involved in internet fraud, reportedly denied paternity. The rejection left her to endure the pregnancy and raise the child alone.
Sources also revealed that the woman became increasingly resentful towards the baby, reportedly expressing irritation whenever she saw him, as he reminded her of the painful experience with the child’s father. On the day of the tragic event, she was said to have transferred her anger onto the boy, resulting in a fatal beating.
Efforts to obtain an official statement from the Delta State Police Command are ongoing, as the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the case.
