Woman Abandons 3 Children at Enugu Police Station, Commits Suicide over Economic Hardship

A yet-to-be-identified Nigerian woman, struggling with the harsh realities of life, tragically ended her own life by running into a moving vehicle after leaving her three children at the Enugu Police Station. Sources reveal that the woman was battling depression exacerbated by the soaring cost of living, echoing the challenges faced by many in the wake of economic policies.

Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, the compassionate wife of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, has stepped forward to provide solace and support to the bereaved children. During an unscheduled visit to the Ogui Police Station, where the youngsters were in custody, the First Lady pledged to sponsor their daily needs and education through her Custos Care Foundation.

Expressing deep concern for the well-being of the children, Mrs. Mbah announced a comprehensive scholarship covering their educational journey from nursery school to university. In a bid to ensure their immediate comfort, she directed the prompt relocation of the children from the police station to a government-supported home.

The tragic incident left the children, all under the age of six, without a mother. The eldest child, unable to provide details about their father, emphasized the family’s dire situation.

Addressing reporters, Mrs. Mbah implored those grappling with depression to seek help and counseling, emphasizing the importance of avoiding drastic decisions. She called on the Commissioner for the Ministry of Children, Gender, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, to intensify efforts in sensitization and counseling, particularly for individuals facing mental health challenges.
