Enugu Is the Most Secure City in Nigeria – Governor Mbah

Governor Peter Mbah has declared Enugu the most secure city in Nigeria, emphasizing the state’s commitment to public safety and dismissing what he described as false narratives by detractors.

Speaking on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 13, Abayomi Oladipo, Mbah highlighted the comprehensive security measures his administration has put in place to protect lives and property across the state.

“Enugu is the most secure city in the country, unarguably safe for people who like to magnify things and believe that the security we enjoy in Enugu is disturbing them,” he said.

The governor cited the establishment of a Distress Response Squad, deployment of over 150 security vehicles, installation of AI-enabled surveillance cameras, and a fully equipped Command and Control Centre as key components of the state’s security architecture. He said these measures have given Enugu the capacity not only to prevent crime but also to swiftly resolve it when it occurs.

Mbah criticized the circulation of old or unrelated images and videos online, saying they were being used to falsely portray Enugu as unsafe. “I have seen some images and videos recently of things that never happened here but were made to look as if they did,” he said.

He stressed that the drive to grow Enugu’s economy from \$4.4 billion to \$30 billion and position it as a premier destination for investment, business, and tourism could only be achieved through sustained security.

AIG Oladipo praised the governor’s efforts, saying there had been a marked improvement in the security situation in Enugu. He noted that after meeting with the police commissioners of Enugu and Anambra, new collaborative strategies were being rolled out to tackle crime more effectively.

“I want to thank you for the support and your cooperation with the police and other security agencies in the state,” Oladipo said.
