Wike Lied About His Background, Was Disowned by His Poor Father – APC Chieftain
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has taken a swipe at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following remarks the minister made during a recent appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today
During the interview, Wike claimed he came from a wealthy background and drove his own car while in school, contrasting his upbringing with that of his former political ally and boss, Rotimi Amaechi. He also alleged that Dame Judith, Amaechi’s wife, received N4 million monthly for training Rivers women and pledged to resign if a forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) fails to indict her.
Reacting in a statement released to journalists over the weekend, Eze—an ally of Amaechi—described Wike’s statements as falsehoods meant to distort his humble beginnings and denigrate those who contributed to his rise. He accused Wike of denying his past and attempting to rebrand himself with a fabricated narrative of affluence.
Eze asserted that Wike’s claim of a privileged background is contradicted by the harsh poverty that, according to him, defined Wike’s early life. “Trying to claim how rich his father was when poverty that radiated his family was as strong as the direct ray of sun is denying his background,” Eze said. He added, “His father, if alive, would be disappointed in his act of self-denial to justify his lavish living with public funds. Not minding that his father disowned him because of his character, and if not for his friend’s father who assisted him by paying his school fees, Nigerians would have been spared of having such a charlatan in public service.”
Taking aim at Wike’s criticism of Dame Judith Amaechi, Eze questioned whether Wike’s wife, a judge, is suited to her role, given her association with the minister. He suggested that Wike’s character could compromise her impartiality and sense of judgment. “The business of Court is a noble one and the background of a Judge shapes his or her sense of judgement,” Eze stated.
Eze further criticized Wike’s political rise, attributing it to the support of Amaechi, who he said made a grave error by mentoring him. According to Eze, Amaechi appointed Wike as a Local Government Chairman, made him Chief of Staff, and nominated him for a ministerial post under former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He concluded by condemning Wike’s tenure as Rivers State governor, accusing him of dismantling key projects and policies initiated by the Amaechi administration. Eze said Wike ruined agricultural and educational programs that were designed to benefit the people of Rivers State and positioned the state as a hub for development.
