Top PDP BoT Member and Ward Chairman Resign from Party, Join ADC, Cite Reasons

Alhaji Adamu Waziri, a founding member and Board of Trustees (BoT) member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially resigned from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The announcement was made on Monday at the Dogo Tebo Ward Centre in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State, where Waziri cited national interest and the need to restore democratic values as his motivation for leaving the PDP.

Waziri stated that his resignation complied with the PDP’s constitutional requirement for members to formally withdraw at the ward level. Describing the move as driven by the “exigencies of the moment,” he said the decision was not easy but necessary in light of the current political climate. According to him, the PDP leadership and direction no longer reflect the ideals of a credible opposition, and he believes a new political movement is essential to revitalise Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

“I was a member of PDP, and due to the exigencies of the moment and in the interest of the nation, I have decided to resign. The PDP constitution demands that I come to my ward centre to formalise this action,” Waziri said.

Waziri, who played a prominent role in the formation and growth of the PDP, urged his political allies—whom he referred to as “my boys”—to join him in the ADC. He called for collective efforts to rebuild a vibrant democratic system that can ensure good governance and better serve the Nigerian people.

In response to the resignation, the PDP Ward Chairman, represented by Muhammad Bomai, accepted Waziri’s departure with “deep regret,” describing him as a pillar of the party and a national figure whose exit would be deeply felt. Bomai also returned Waziri’s PDP membership card during the brief ceremony.

In a surprising turn, Bomai himself announced his resignation from the PDP and immediate defection to the ADC, expressing full support for Waziri’s vision and political direction.
