Wike Claps Back at Bode George: “If You Don’t Have a Job, Stay Home and Read Newspapers

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has hit back at PDP chieftain Bode George, following comments made by the elder statesman suggesting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “made” Wike. The sharp exchange stems from George’s reaction to the sealing of the PDP National Headquarters in Abuja by the Federal Capital Territory Administration over unpaid ground rent.

In a recent interview with Channels TV, Bode George criticized Wike for allegedly allowing the party’s headquarters to be shut down, calling it “sacrilegious” and “unacceptable.” He accused Wike of turning against the party that, according to him, gave Wike his political rise—from local government chairman to minister and two-term governor. “This is the party that brought you to life,” George said. “It’s like going back to your village and sealing your family home over unpaid levies.”

Wike, known for his fiery comebacks, didn’t hold back in his response. During a media chat, he dismissed George’s comments with a personal jab. “If an old man has no job, sit down in your house and read newspapers,” Wike said. He acknowledged that PDP played a role in his rise but argued that political success is driven by individuals, not just party structures.

“I agree PDP made me, but ask Bode George—who has PDP made in Lagos if it is the party that makes people?” Wike questioned. “Since 1999, what has PDP achieved in Lagos under his watch? Not one House of Assembly seat, not one House of Reps, not one Senate seat. And you’re talking to me, someone who has worked to make the party a national force.”
