Why I Will Never Support Peter Obi – Seyi Law
Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has firmly stated that he will never support Labour Party’s Peter Obi in any political contest, citing personal attacks on his family by Obi’s supporters during the 2023 elections. Speaking on the Teju Babyface Show, the comedian, who endorsed President Bola Tinubu at the time, said members of the “Obidient movement” crossed the line by insulting his wife and children.
According to Seyi Law, Peter Obi’s failure to denounce the actions of some of his supporters makes him unworthy of future support. He likened the movement to a “cult” that discourages independent thinking and emphasized that family is a boundary that should never be crossed.
“The moment you cross that boundary from me to my children, mother, and wife, there is no forgiveness,” he said. “That is why there is nothing on earth that Peter Obi can do that will make me support him.”
He added that Obi’s denial of the actions of his supporters only worsened the situation. “They attacked my children and my wife. As long as Peter Obi does not call them to order and keeps denying that they are doing that, he will never get my support. Let Peter Obi wear the garment of Jesus Christ today, he will never get my support.”
Seyi Law maintained that his personal life is between him and God, but any group that does not encourage free expression is, in his words, “a cult.” He also shared that while he does not hold on to anger for long, any harm directed at his family lingers.
