“We’ve Postponed the NWC Meeting Due to Activities of Democracy’s Enemies” — PDP National Chairman, Turaki

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its inaugural National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, originally slated for Tuesday at the party’s national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

Announcing the development after accessing the secretariat, the party’s new National Chairman, Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), said the decision followed security concerns triggered by what he described as activities of “those opposed to progress and democracy.”

Turaki, who arrived in the company of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, credited the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police for providing the security that enabled the leadership to enter the premises.

He noted that the police were alerted after flyers circulated online announcing parallel meetings of the NEC and BoT by individuals the PDP insists are no longer members of the party. According to him, the police chief guaranteed full protection for the legitimate party leadership — a promise he said was fulfilled.

Turaki expressed gratitude to governors, National Assembly members, former officials, and other party stakeholders who showed support at the secretariat. He stressed that the PDP remains committed to unity and national stability as it positions itself for future governance.

The postponement comes amid an escalating leadership dispute, with Turaki’s faction asserting its authority following the expulsion of former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, the minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and others accused of undermining the party. The expelled group had also announced plans to convene their own NEC and BoT meetings at the same venue.

The rescheduled NWC meeting is now set to hold on Wednesday, November 19, at the Wadata Plaza headquarters under strengthened police protection.
