Weeks After House Was Marked for Demolition, PDP Reps Member Finalizes Plans to Defect to APC

Honourable Marcus Onobun, the only Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member representing Edo State in the National Assembly, is reportedly finalising plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Onobun, who represents Esan West, Esan Central, and Igueben federal constituency, was notably absent from the PDP stakeholders meeting held on Monday, further fuelling speculation about his imminent departure from the party.

The move comes weeks after Onobun’s residence was marked for demolition by state authorities, an action he linked to allegations of harbouring cultists. He accused Governor Monday Okpebholo of using such tactics to intimidate opposition figures into joining the APC. The incident drew sharp reactions and sparked public debate over political intimidation and the rule of law in Edo State.

Sources close to Onobun have confirmed that he has begun consultations with APC stakeholders in preparation for what appears to be a return to his former party. A PDP chieftain, who asked not to be named, revealed that the lawmaker has already met with Governor Okpebholo and other key APC leaders, describing the anticipated defection as a “homecoming.”

“He was originally in the APC before moving to the PDP, so this is not entirely surprising,” the source stated. “His decision to return is only a matter of days.”

When contacted, Onobun neither confirmed nor denied the reports, simply stating, “I am consulting and will let you know.”
