“We Will Buy Tinubu’s 2027 Nomination Form” — South-East NANS
The South-East chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) says it will raise funds to purchase the Expression of Interest and Nomination Form for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
The group also announced plans to mobilise more than 20,000 students and youths for a second-term endorsement rally.
The declaration was made on Monday at the Education Trust Fund Hall of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam campus, Anambra State, during a meeting led by the South-East NANS Coordinator, Okoye Okpala.
Okpala said the association’s position is based on what it described as measurable impact in the education sector over the past three years. He pointed to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and the zero-interest student loan scheme as key interventions.
According to him, more than 983,000 students have benefited from the programme, with over ₦183 billion disbursed so far. He said the initiative has helped students who previously struggled with tuition and living expenses to remain in school.
He also raised concerns over comments attributed to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi regarding the future of the loan scheme, questioning what would happen to current beneficiaries if the policy were discontinued.
The South-East NANS leadership maintained that its endorsement is based on policies affecting student welfare and access to education.
