“We Paid $100,000 Legal Fees to Ozekhome, Ejiofor” – IPOB
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has confirmed that $100,000 was paid to Senior Advocate of Nigeria Mike Ozekhome and Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor for legal representation of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, during his trial.
The disclosure was made Thursday by Madam Nnennaya Anya, Head of IPOB’s Finance Directorate, in a statement issued on behalf of the organization. IPOB said the clarification aimed to ensure transparency and dispel misinformation.
The payment, made in two installments of $80,000 and $20,000, followed Kanu’s direct instructions. It covered legal services before he opted to represent himself in court. IPOB confirmed all records of the transfer are available for verification within the organization.
Kanu is serving a life sentence at Sokoto Prison after a conviction on terrorism charges by an Abuja Federal High Court and has filed an appeal against the verdict.
