VIDEO: Governor Fubara Storms Rivers Assembly Quarters Amidst Growing Crisis
Governor Siminalayi Fubara made an unexpected visit to the Rivers State House of Assembly quarters amidst escalating political tensions within the state.
Amidst tight security, Governor Fubara arrived at the premises where the Martin Amaewhule-led legislators convene, asserting his presence as the state’s leader. However, his visit was brief, consisting of a three-minute walk around the area before departing.
This surprise appearance comes in the wake of a fresh crisis brewing within the Rivers State House of Assembly. The turmoil intensified when a faction of lawmakers aligned with Governor Fubara elected Victor Oko-Jumbo, representing the Bonny constituency, as their new Speaker.
Oko-Jumbo’s election, reportedly in adherence to the Standing Order of the House, occurred during Wednesday’s plenary session. He is purported to have secured the speakership with the support of fellow legislators loyal to Governor Fubara.
Notably, Oko-Jumbo replaces Edison Ehie, who previously held the position but resigned amidst the political upheaval, subsequently assuming the role of Chief of Staff to the Governor.
