Wabara to Tinubu: Call Wike to Order Before Rivers Burns”
Former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, has issued a stern warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to intervene in the escalating political crisis in Rivers State before it spirals out of control.
Wabara’s call comes in the wake of mounting tensions between the pro-Wike faction and lawmakers in Rivers State, with the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently calling for the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Accusing Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, of exacerbating the confrontation between Governor Fubara and the lawmakers, Wabara cautioned that any instability in Rivers State could have dire consequences for Nigeria’s economy, given the state’s significant revenue contribution.
Appealing to President Tinubu to rein in Wike and prioritize peace in Rivers State, Wabara emphasized the need for political stability and respect for democratic processes.
In a related development, amidst a mass exodus of PDP members in Abia State, Wabara reassured party faithful, attributing the defections to the legacy of impunity and disregard for internal democracy during the previous PDP-led administration in the state.
Meanwhile, former PDP Chairman in Abia State, Senator Emma Nwaka, has attributed the party’s collapse in the state to the failure of subsequent party leaderships to uphold his legacy of party supremacy. Nwaka lamented that party officials became subservient to government officials, leading to the erosion of the party’s influence.
Expressing his disappointment with the current state of the PDP in Abia, Nwaka announced his decision to join the Siddon Look Party (SLP), emphasizing the need to rebuild a strong political alternative.
