Video: Agulu Youths Voice Discontent with Peter Obi, Others Through Peaceful Protest
Hundreds of Agulu youths have taken to the streets to express their frustration over the perceived neglect and abandonment of Agulu General Hospital. The target of their peaceful protest was His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi.
The catalyst for the agitation was the recent donation of 20 Million Naira by Peter Obi to a General Hospital in Nsukka, contrasting sharply with the dilapidated state of Agulu General Hospital, which the protestors claim is overrun by overgrown grass and poses dangers from reptiles and insects.
Leaders of the rally voiced their anger, alleging that Peter Obi, along with Engr. Akpulu, the contractor, has taken the people of Agulu for granted. The dissatisfaction stems from the contract awarded by Mr. Obi for the rehabilitation of the General Hospital Agulu, for which he claims to have disbursed over Two Hundred Million Naira. However, Engr. Akpulu has vehemently denied receiving such a sum.
Calling on Governor Soludo to intervene, the agitated youths emphasized the dire need for a functional hospital in their community. Their discontent extended beyond the health sector, addressing various contract projects initiated by Peter Obi and subsequently abandoned, such as the Obeagu Water Scheme, Judges Quarters, Fire Service Center, Police Station, and others. The protesters also expressed displeasure with unfulfilled promises made by the former governor.
The youths did not spare criticism for the President General and the Town Union, accusing them of embezzling Forty Million Naira allocated for the “Show Your Community” project by Governor Obiano. As tensions rise, the demand for accountability echoes through the streets of Agulu, urging authorities to address the community’s longstanding grievances.
