US Issues Terror Alert for Nigeria: Urges Citizens to Avoid Major Hotels
In a recent development, the United States has issued a stern warning to its citizens currently residing or traveling in Nigeria. The advisory, dated November 3, highlights “elevated threats” specifically targeting major hotels in the larger cities of Nigeria.
According to the emergency information for American citizens, the Nigerian security agencies are actively working to counter these threats. In response to the situation, the U.S. government has advised its citizens to exercise extreme vigilance when staying at major hotels, be highly alert to their surroundings, maintain a low profile, and review the current travel advisory for Nigeria before checking into any hotels.
The notice from the U.S. Department of State stated, “The U.S. Government is aware of credible information that there is an elevated threat to major hotels in Nigeria’s larger cities. The Nigerian security services are working diligently to counter the threat.”
In addition to this advisory, the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the U.S. Consulate in Lagos have provided their addresses and telephone numbers for any American citizens who may require assistance.
This warning comes shortly after the U.S. Department of State, in October, advised all its citizens worldwide to exercise restraint when traveling to various locations around the world. Nigeria was listed under the third tier of caution alert, urging travelers to reconsider their plans to visit the country.
As the situation unfolds, U.S. citizens in Nigeria are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety while avoiding major hotels in the larger cities until the security situation stabilizes.
