Trump criticises Israel’s strike on Iran gas field, warns against further escalation in Gulf region

US President Donald Trump has criticised Israel’s recent strike on Iran’s South Pars gas field, while distancing the United States from the operation and warning against further escalation in the region.

In a statement shared on social media via the White House on Thursday, Trump said the United States did not participate in the attack on the Iranian facility. He described Israel’s action as a response driven by anger over developments in the Middle East, noting that the strike targeted a major energy installation.

He also stated that no further attacks would be carried out on the South Pars gas field unless Iran continued its actions against Qatar. Trump warned that any additional strikes on Qatar’s energy infrastructure could trigger a stronger response from the United States, including threats directed at the South Pars facility.

The comments come amid a series of retaliatory attacks across the Gulf region. Iran’s response to the strike on its gas field has reportedly included attacks on energy installations in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.

In Qatar, QatarEnergy reported that facilities at Ras Laffan Industrial City were hit by missiles, resulting in fires and significant damage. The company also confirmed that several liquefied natural gas (LNG) sites were affected, prompting operational disruptions and the declaration of force majeure to its buyers.

Similar incidents were reported in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, where refinery and gas infrastructure were targeted. Authorities in the UAE temporarily shut down the Habshan gas facility following the attack.

The exchange of strikes has raised concerns about further disruption to global energy supplies. Gas and petroleum prices have continued to rise since the conflict escalated earlier this year.

Iran has not yet indicated whether it will comply with calls to halt its attacks on Qatar or other regional targets. Over 1,500 people have reportedly been killed since the start of the conflict, with the majority of casualties recorded in Iran.
