Iran Sets Conditions for Ending War With U.S. and Israel
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has outlined conditions he says are necessary to end the ongoing war involving the United States and Israel.
In a message posted Wednesday on X, Pezeshkian said the conflict could only stop if international guarantees are put in place to ensure that attacks against Iran permanently cease. He also demanded reparations and the recognition of what he described as Iran’s “legitimate rights.”
The president did not specify which rights he was referring to. However, analysts following Iran’s domestic politics suggest the statement may relate to the recent appointment of a new supreme leader and the government’s desire for international recognition of that leadership.
Earlier this week, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new religious leader and head of state. Speaking to reporters, Trump said the new leader should expect “significant difficulties.”
“I don’t believe he can live in peace,” Trump said, without elaborating further.
