US Election Extra: Joe Biden Spotted Wearing Trump’s MAGA Cap
Ahead of the upcoming United States Presidential election, President Joe Biden was seen briefly wearing a “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) hat—often associated with his political rival, Republican candidate Donald Trump.
The incident occurred during Biden’s visit to Pennsylvania on Wednesday, where he attended a ceremony marking the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. While meeting with firefighters near the crash site of one of the hijacked planes, the president engaged in a light-hearted exchange with a Trump supporter.
In a video that quickly went viral, Biden is seen offering the supporter, who was wearing a Trump campaign hat, a different cap with the presidential seal on it, joking that he would autograph it. The supporter accepted and requested Biden’s signature on the hat, to which the president playfully responded, “I don’t remember my name, I’m slow,” referencing his age with a laugh. The two men then swapped hats, with Biden briefly donning the red MAGA cap, eliciting cheers from the crowd.
The moment sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many expressing surprise. The Trump campaign humorously thanked Biden for his “support.” However, the White House quickly clarified the incident, emphasizing the president’s intent to promote unity on a day of remembrance.
In a statement, Deputy White House Press Secretary Andrew Bates explained, “As a gesture, President Biden gave a hat to a Trump supporter, who in return asked the president to wear his Trump cap. It was a light-hearted moment meant to highlight the spirit of unity and camaraderie.”
