Trump, Vance Evacuated After Gunfire Near White House Correspondents’ Dinner

President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance were evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night after gunfire erupted outside the Washington Hilton Hotel.

Security agents moved quickly to shield the president and remove him from the stage after shots were reported near the venue. Broadcast footage showed agents surrounding Trump and rushing him out of the hall. He briefly stumbled during the evacuation but was unharmed.

Authorities later confirmed that a lone suspect had been arrested at the scene. Trump said the suspect was armed with multiple weapons.

Police identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Allen, a Los Angeles resident described as a teacher and video game developer.

Officials said the suspect was believed to have been a guest at the hotel where the annual dinner was taking place.

“We do believe he was a guest here at the hotel,” Interim Metropolitan Police Chief Jeffery Carroll said during a late Saturday news conference, according to CNN.

The motive for the shooting had not been confirmed as of press time.

The White House has not reported any injuries among officials or guests, and authorities said the situation was contained after the suspect’s arrest. Investigations are ongoing.
