US Ambassador Waltz Invites Nicki Minaj to Discuss Protection of Persecuted Christians in Nigeria
Mike Waltz, the United States ambassador to the United Nations, has invited international music star Nicki Minaj for a discussion following her recent online comments about religious persecution in Nigeria.
The invitation comes after President Donald Trump announced plans to redesignate Nigeria as a “country of particular concern,” citing allegations of a “Christian genocide” attributed to radical Islamist groups. Trump also said he would direct the House Appropriations Committee to investigate the issue immediately.
In reaction to Trump’s announcement, Nicki Minaj took to social media to express gratitude for the religious freedom she enjoys in the United States. The Grammy-nominated rapper emphasized that no group should face persecution for their faith and encouraged her followers to pray for victims of religious violence worldwide.
Responding to Minaj’s post, Ambassador Waltz praised the artist for using her platform to draw attention to the plight of Christians in Nigeria. “@NICKIMINAJ, thank you for using your platform to speak out in defense of the Christians being persecuted in Nigeria,” he wrote on X. “We cannot allow this to continue. Every brother and sister of Christ must band together and say, ‘Enough!’”
Waltz went on to invite Minaj to the US Embassy to the United Nations in New York for what he described as an “in-depth discussion” about the administration’s efforts to protect religious freedom around the world.
His invitation follows renewed attention on Nigeria’s security crisis, as Trump recently ordered the US Department of War to prepare for “possible action” against Islamic terrorist groups operating in the country.
