Unknown Gunmen Attack Anambra LG Secretariat, Set Patrol Vehicles Ablaze
In a brazen attack, gunmen assaulted the Ogbaru Local Government secretariat in the Atani area of Anambra State on Saturday morning. The attackers set fire to at least five vehicles, including four patrol vehicles belonging to a local vigilante group.
According to Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra police, the gunmen were repelled by vigilantes before a police response team arrived at the scene. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
“The attack, which led to the destruction of four patrol vehicles, has been condemned as an act of cowardice,” Ikenga stated. “Preliminary information indicates that the assailants, arriving in large numbers on motorcycles and a vehicle, began shooting indiscriminately.”
Despite the initial chaos, the vigilante operatives mounted a strong resistance until the police arrived. The gunmen ultimately fled the scene, overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the security operatives. However, four of the vigilante patrol vehicles were severely damaged by the flames.
