Umunze Community Strongly Opposes Inclusion in Proposed Orlu State
The proposed creation of Orlu State, initiated by Hon. Michael Ugochinyere, has sparked significant opposition from the Umunze community. This proposal, identified as bill HB1430, includes Umunze in the new state without prior consultation, leading to strong reactions from local representatives and community leaders.
Hon. Princess Chinwe Nnabuife, who represents Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, expressed her concerns in a recent statement. She clarified that she and her constituents were not informed about the bill and emphasized that she cannot support any legislation that may harm the interests of the people she represents. Nnabuife stated, “The good people of Umunze whom I represent in the National Assembly are not privy to this bill as I was never consulted on this matter and therefore do not and cannot support any bill that may prove detrimental to the interests of the people whose mandate I represent.”
Nnabuife reaffirmed her commitment to protecting her constituency, stressing that Umunze and Orumba North and South will remain part of Anambra State. She condemned any attempt to change their status without proper consultation, highlighting the strong historical and cultural ties that bind Umunze to Anambra.
Echoing her sentiments, the Umunze Progressive Union, led by President General Sir Engr. E. O. Iheazor, also rejected the inclusion of Umunze in Orlu State. The union emphasized that Umunze has no cultural or traditional connection with Orlu and that such a significant decision cannot be made without thorough consultation with the local community.
Engr. Iheazor reassured the residents that Hon. Nnabuife is actively addressing the issue and urged them to remain calm. “She is on top of the situation,” he said, promising that the necessary steps will be taken at the appropriate time.
Both Nnabuife and the Umunze Progressive Union support the creation of additional states in the South East for equity and justice but insist that Umunze must remain part of Anambra State. They underscore the importance of respecting the wishes of the local community and ensuring that any changes are made with their full consent.

When Ebonyi state was created, did they consult the Afikpo region before merging them together with the Abakiliki region to form Ebonyi state? Stop all this your madness. When you are added to the new state, you people can opt to leave. I thought what would have been your concern is for the new state when created to answer a different name not Orlu than making noise of not consulting you people or any cultural affiliation before asking for the new state.
