Jigawa Governor Appoints 34-Year-Old as High Court Judge
Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has appointed Nilfa Gambo, a 34-year-old woman, as a high court judge, marking a significant milestone in the state’s judiciary. The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday at the Council Chambers of the Government House.
Alongside Mrs. Gambo, Muhammad Usman was also sworn in as a high court judge, while Muktar Shuaibu was appointed as the state’s Grand Khadi. Governor Namadi emphasized that these appointments were based on merit, highlighting the appointees’ exemplary performance during the selection process.
Governor Namadi praised the National Judicial Council (NJC) for confirming that Jigawa’s selection process was the best in the country. He stressed that the state government remained neutral to ensure the selection of the most qualified candidates.
The governor congratulated the new judges and urged them to serve with diligence and integrity. He also encouraged them to uphold the principles of justice and fairness in their duties.
Prominent lawyer Bulama Bukarti expressed his excitement over Mrs. Gambo’s appointment, describing her as a smart, industrious, and kind woman. He noted her remarkable journey, which includes graduating from Bayero University Kano, being called to the Nigerian Bar in 2013, and earning an LLM from SOAS, University of London, with a specialization in International Economic Law focusing on Africa. Mrs. Gambo is also a certified mediator, international arbitrator, and a member of CIArb UK and ICMC.
Bukarti highlighted her achievements, balancing a successful career while raising four children, underscoring her as an inspiration to aspiring lawyers and girls. He praised the Jigawa judiciary for its vision in appointing younger lawyers as judges, predicting significant positive impacts on the state’s judiciary.
In recent remarks, Bukarti celebrated the state’s forward-thinking approach, noting that this appointment continues a trend of injecting fresh talent into the judiciary, following the appointment of Justice Auwal Ya’u. He expressed confidence that such decisions would elevate the quality and reputation of Jigawa’s judiciary.
