Trump Appoints Tom Homan as Border Czar to Lead Sweeping Deportation Effort
President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Tom Homan, the former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as the administration’s new “border czar” to lead a major initiative on immigration enforcement and deportation.
Mr. Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, his social media platform, confirming that Homan will assume oversight of U.S. border operations, including efforts to increase deportations of undocumented immigrants. In his post, Mr. Trump described Homan as a “stalwart on border control” with extensive experience in immigration enforcement, stating, “I am pleased to announce that Tom Homan, former ICE director and stalwart on border control, will be joining the Trump Administration in charge of our Nation’s Borders (‘The Border Czar’), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security.”
Mr. Trump’s selection of Homan signals the administration’s intent to fulfill campaign promises around immigration reform and mass deportations. Throughout his campaign, Mr. Trump frequently addressed the issue of undocumented immigrants, pledging to deport individuals he labeled as threats to national security. The appointment of Homan, known for his assertive stance on border security, reflects this commitment to strict immigration policies.
In an October interview on CBS’s 60 Minutes, Homan reiterated the importance of immigration enforcement, emphasizing that the costs of mass deportation are justified by the security concerns he believes undocumented immigrants pose to the nation.
With Homan set to take office alongside Trump in January, the administration is expected to advance aggressive measures aimed at tightening border control and implementing widespread deportation efforts.
