Former Harris Aide Calls on Biden to Resign, Make Harris First Female President
In a recent appearance on CNN’s State of the Union, Jamal Simmons, former communications director for Vice President Kamala Harris, made headlines with his call for President Joe Biden to resign, paving the way for Harris to become the first female president of the United States.
Simmons expressed admiration for Biden’s administration, remarking, “Joe Biden’s been a phenomenal president; he’s lived up to so many of the promises he’s made.” He suggested Biden could now serve as a “transitional figure” by stepping down. “He could resign the presidency in the next 30 days and make Kamala Harris President of the United States,” Simmons stated.
The idea, Simmons argued, could be a strategic move ahead of former President Donald Trump’s upcoming return to office. “It would turn tables on Trump, keep Kamala from presiding over January 6, and make it easier for the next woman to run,” he said, referencing how Harris becoming president would reshape political narratives.
When questioned by CNN’s Dana Bash about the possibility of Harris being nominated to the Supreme Court, Simmons doubled down on his call for Biden’s resignation. He noted that Biden’s choice to step down would fulfill a “final promise” and allow Harris to serve as the 47th President. “It would disrupt all of Donald Trump’s paraphernalia,” he added. “He’d have to rebrand everything. And it would ease the path for future women candidates, as they wouldn’t carry the symbolic weight of being the ‘first’ woman president.”
This bold suggestion comes on the heels of the recent U.S. election, in which Trump, the Republican nominee, defeated Harris, securing critical wins in several swing states, including Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Trump is slated to be sworn in as the 47th President in January 2025.
