Trump Admin Orders Migrants Who Entered Through Biden-era App to Leave the US

The U.S. government has ordered migrants who obtained temporary permission to stay in the country through the CBP One app, launched during the Biden administration, to self-deport immediately. This development, reported by U.S. media on Tuesday, follows the issuance of “formal termination notices” to certain individuals, although the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has not disclosed the criteria for selecting those affected.

A DHS spokesperson confirmed that the affected individuals, referred to as “illegal aliens,” have been urged to voluntarily leave the country using the CBP Home app. Those who refuse to comply with the order face removal from the U.S. and a permanent ban on reentry. The move is expected to impact over 930,000 migrants, according to National Public Radio.

The CBP One app, introduced in January 2023, was part of the Biden administration’s strategy to manage asylum claims and facilitate the entry of migrants into the U.S. at specific southwestern border points. The app allowed migrants, primarily in Mexico, to schedule appointments to apply for temporary residency in the U.S.

However, the policy shift comes as President Donald Trump, in his second term, ended further entries via the CBP One app. This decision was in line with Trump’s longstanding focus on limiting immigration and securing U.S. borders. Trump had previously vowed to deport millions of undocumented migrants during his campaign, portraying migrants as a threat to national security and public safety.

A DHS spokesperson emphasized that terminating these paroles fulfilled a promise to protect U.S. borders. Affected migrants were notified by email of the cancellation of their temporary status, with DHS citing its discretionary authority under U.S. law.

This latest directive follows a previous move by the Trump administration, which ended the legal status of 532,000 Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan migrants last month, giving them limited time to depart the U.S.
