Troops Stop Bandit Attack, Kill Notorious Terrorist Leader in Plateau

Nigerian military forces have prevented a planned attack by armed bandits in Plateau State, killing a notorious gang leader and seizing weapons during the operation.

Troops from the 3 Division and Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) acted on intelligence received early on December 25, targeting Gwande community in Monguna District, Bokkos Local Government Area.

According to Samson Zhakom, information officer for the operation, the bandits were preparing to strike a neighbouring community when soldiers intercepted them. “Troops conducted a decisive operation at Gwande Community, Monguna District. They engaged a group of armed bandits mobilising for an attack, forcing them to flee,” Zhakom said.

The operation led to the death of one bandit, identified as a key member of a syndicate responsible for terrorising Gwande and surrounding areas. Weapons recovered included a fabricated revolver rifle, a fabricated pistol, nine rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and six cartridges.

Troops are now intensifying efforts to track down the remaining gang members. The military has urged residents to continue providing timely intelligence and warned criminal elements in the area to end illegal activities or face strong action.

The army reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security and peace in Plateau State.
