Explosions Rock Kwara After U.S. Airstrikes on Terrorists in Sokoto
Residents of Offa community in Kwara State were thrown into panic after multiple explosions rocked parts of the town around midnight on Thursday, destroying several buildings.
Eyewitnesses, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, said the explosions occurred at two separate locations — the Eid area and the Solid Worth Hotel axis.
“The explosion truly occurred,” one resident said. “No fewer than five buildings were completely destroyed. I cannot confirm if there were casualties.”
Another resident confirmed the incident, noting that although the damage was extensive, no deaths were recorded.
“I visited the scene this morning. The hotel was badly damaged,” he said. “Another explosion also occurred near the prayer ground around Ijagbo in Offa. Thankfully, nobody was killed.”
As of the time of filing this report, the cause and nature of the explosions remained unclear.
Kwara State police spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said she could not immediately confirm the incident or provide details on its source.
The explosions occurred just hours after President Donald Trump announced that the United States had carried out airstrikes against terrorist targets in Sokoto State.
“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even centuries,” President Trump said in a statement posted on Truth Social late Thursday.
Authorities have yet to establish any direct link between the U.S. airstrikes and the explosions in Kwara.
