Troops Neutralize Suspected IPOB Member, Apprehend Jos Prison Escapee in Enugu Operation

In a recent operation conducted by troops of Sector 4 at the Forward Operational Base in Okigwe, Imo State, a suspected member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was neutralized. The suspect, identified as Chimezie Chukwu alias Biggi, was accused of being involved in drug peddling, gunrunning, and armed robbery.

According to the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Unuakhalu, the incident took place when the troops attempted to stop the suspect while he was riding a motorcycle. In an attempt to evade arrest, the suspect fled, prompting the troops to open fire, resulting in the neutralization of the suspect.

The recovered items from the scene included two live rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, an ITEL mobile phone, a small bag containing charms, a sum of N2,300, and a Qlink motorcycle.

In a separate joint operation by troops of Sector One of the Joint Task Force South East, known as “Operation Udo Ka II,” in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), an escapee from the Jos prison break was apprehended during a raid in Enugu.

The operation targeted the hideout of suspected members of IPOB and ESN in Ugbakwa village, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State. The apprehended escapee, Mr. Chimezie Chukwu, also known as Biggi, was identified as a drug peddler, gunrunner, and an individual involved in armed robbery.

Items recovered from the escapee included six mobile phones, three mobile phone batteries, a Moniepoint POS, an ATM card, two packs of substances suspected to be cannabis, and a sum of N107,280.

Both the escapee and the recovered items are now in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for further investigation. This marks a significant success in the ongoing efforts to maintain security and combat criminal activities in the region.
