Tragic Discovery: UNIPORT Student Found Dead in Off-Campus Residence
In a distressing turn of events, another young student from the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has been discovered lifeless in her off-campus apartment in Aluu, a community situated in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, South-south Nigeria. The victim, identified as Adaeze, was a second-year undergraduate student majoring in accounting at the institution.
Adaeze’s lifeless body was found on a fateful Friday, sending shockwaves through the university community and beyond. As of the time of this report, the cause of her untimely demise remains shrouded in mystery, leaving both authorities and the public seeking answers.
This tragic occurrence transpired barely two weeks after another horrifying incident within the same academic community. Damian Okoligwe, a 24-year-old man and a student of UNIPORT, allegedly killed and dismembered his 20-year-old girlfriend, Justina Otuene, in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state. The gruesome discovery of Ms. Otuene’s decomposing body in the suspect’s residence led to Mr. Okoligwe’s arrest. He is a 400-level student pursuing a degree in petrochemical engineering at UNIPORT.
Chima Wokocha, the dean of student affairs at UNIPORT, confirmed Adaeze’s tragic passing. He explained that Adaeze’s lifeless body was found in her off-campus dwelling and subsequently transported to a healthcare facility within the university campus by concerned neighbors.
“The police were there with us also. We acknowledge the fact that she had taken a substance and passed out because there was a bottle of a substance that was found by her side,” Mr. Wokocha disclosed.
The local police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, a superintendent of police, confirmed the incident and revealed that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding Adaeze’s death. According to Mrs. Iringe-Koko, the landlord of the victim’s apartment reported finding her on the floor with foam emanating from her nose and mouth, with an insecticide nearby. She was swiftly transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
This tragic event has left the UNIPORT community in mourning, and it highlights the pressing need for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding these untimely deaths. The authorities and law enforcement agencies are committed to seeking justice and answers for the grieving families and the public.
