Tinubu’s Policies Crucial for Nigeria’s Advancement, Says LP Rep Kama
Nkemkanma Kama, representing the Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo federal constituency in the House of Representatives, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s policies, highlighting their importance for Nigeria’s progress. Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, the Labour Party (LP) lawmaker emphasized the necessity of these policies while stressing the need to align them with public sentiment.
Kama identified the timing of policy implementation as a significant issue. He noted that much of the current hardship could have been avoided with better planning. “For instance, amending the national anthem—is this what the country needs now? During debates, we questioned whether changing the anthem is more urgent than fostering a robust economy,” Kama stated.
He praised the removal of the fuel subsidy, calling it a necessary move, but criticized the lack of preparation. “I’m an advocate of removing the subsidy. I thought [ex-President Muhammadu] Buhari would have done it. If it had been done earlier, the impact would have lessened by now. Unfortunately, it wasn’t,” Kama remarked.
Kama also highlighted the issues with other policies like the national anthem change and the increase in electricity tariffs, stressing that while these policies might be appropriate, their timing is critical. “We need stabilization; you can’t add fuel to a burning fire,” he noted.
Reflecting on his performance in the National Assembly, Kama acknowledged both achievements and the need for further improvements. He cited various initiatives, including boreholes in the Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo constituencies, a healthcare program benefiting 16,500 people, and a comprehensive Christmas palliative distribution. Additionally, Kama’s efforts include providing stipends, paying school and medical fees, and distributing farm inputs to 400 women.
Kama reiterated his commitment to his HIPE agenda—Health, Infrastructure, Poverty Alleviation, and Education. “We have done much, but our expectations are high. By God’s grace, we will continue to improve. Very soon, Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo will be a construction site,” he concluded.
