Tinubu’s Minister Is Not Our Member, We Don’t Know How He Was Appointed – Kano APC Chair
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Abdullahi Abbas, has declared that the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, is not a member of the party. Abbas questioned the rationale behind Ata’s ministerial appointment, emphasizing that the party leadership in the state was unaware of his selection.
The controversy follows Ata’s recent comments during an interview with BBC Hausa, where he criticized Abbas and warned that he and his supporters would leave the APC if Abbas or anyone similar were reinstated as the party’s chairman in Kano. Ata accused Abbas of making statements that contributed to the party’s loss of power in the state despite an apparent victory in the 2023 governorship election.
In response, Abbas alleged that Ata had worked against the APC during the election, a matter he claimed was communicated to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He stated that Ata’s actions undermined the party’s success and cast doubt on his commitment to the APC.
“To us APC members, Yusuf Ata is not a member of the APC. We don’t even know why he was appointed a minister,” Abbas said. “Across Kano State, it was only in his local government that we placed third in the 2023 election. We were not aware of his appointment, and we informed the president that he is not a member of our party. He engaged in anti-party activities. He is only a local champion.”
