JUST IN: Tinubu nominates Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded the nomination of Mr Olasunkanmi Tegbe for appointment as Minister of Power. The nomination is now before the Senate for screening and confirmation.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed that the request has been transmitted in line with constitutional requirements.

The move follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to focus on political plans ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

Tegbe, from Oyo State, brings more than three decades of experience across public and private sector roles. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he worked on fiscal policy reform, governance systems, and institutional restructuring.

He has also advised government agencies and private organisations on regulatory reforms, investment frameworks, and economic strategy. Currently, he serves as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, coordinating development cooperation initiatives between Nigeria and China under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation framework.

His past work includes engagements linked to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET), with a focus on sector regulation and institutional reform.

The presidency stated that, if confirmed, Tegbe is expected to support ongoing efforts to reform and stabilise the power sector.
