“Tinubu Won’t Have It Easy in 2027, We’re Coming Back With Peter Obi” – Labour Party

The Labour Party (LP) has confirmed that former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi will be its presidential candidate in the 2027 general election, setting up a fresh contest against President Bola Tinubu.

Obi, who ran on the LP ticket in 2023, finished third behind Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). However, the party believes he remains their best option to challenge the incumbent in the next election.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television program, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, dismissed any notions of an easy re-election for Tinubu. He emphasized that Obi’s return to the race signals the party’s commitment to reclaiming power.

“Tinubu is not just going to have it very easy in 2027. We are coming back with that Peter Obi to them so that they will know we are very serious,” Arabambi said.

Arabambi also addressed the recent departure of actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo from the party, calling it a relief. He accused Okonkwo of lacking true commitment to the LP and alleged that he had been working in favor of the APC.

“We wish Kenneth Okonkwo well. His resignation is good riddance to bad rubbish. He should not speak about the Labour Party anymore,” he stated.

Despite speculation about internal divisions, Arabambi insisted that the LP remains united and strong. He dismissed claims of a leadership crisis, describing them as mere fabrications by detractors attempting to undermine the party’s prospects.
