“Tinubu Will Remain President Until 2031” – Wike Declares

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has confidently asserted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will remain in power until 2031, despite facing significant challenges during the 2023 general elections. Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, Wike revealed that Tinubu came close to losing the election “woefully” due to the economic turbulence caused by the naira redesign policy and fuel crisis orchestrated by the previous All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

Wike, a former governor and influential political figure, criticized those within his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that he would withdraw his support in the upcoming FCT area council elections if the party fails to resolve its internal issues. He stressed that the current disarray within the PDP could ultimately be its downfall unless significant changes are made.

“If PDP does not put their house in order, I’m not going to support them in the area councils election. If PDP goes the way they are going, I will not support them,” he said, warning that the ongoing crisis would consume the party unless the “right thing” is done.

Wike also defended his past political involvement, citing his key role in the re-election of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri. He reiterated his earlier stance from 2023 that the presidency should remain in the South until 2031, after which the North can take its turn. He dismissed any suggestion that his position was anti-party, describing it instead as a call for balanced representation and peaceful coexistence.

Reflecting on the 2023 election, Wike highlighted the difficult environment Tinubu faced, emphasizing that no ruling party would normally adopt policies that fuel voter dissatisfaction during an election period. “Whether APC liked it or not, it was very turbulent for Tinubu to have scaled through that election. You could see that he could have failed the election woefully. The fuel crisis, the naira issue was terrible,” he said.

Wike concluded by attributing Tinubu’s eventual success to both divine favor and political acumen, stating, “That’s how you will know that there are people that, first of all, God is on their side, they also know this game and you must give it to them.”
