Tinubu Approves 300% Salary Increase for Judicial Officers

President Bola Tinubu has signed the Judicial Office Holders Salaries and Allowances Bill into law, marking a significant move to increase the compensation for judicial officers. The announcement came through a statement by Senator Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, on Tuesday.

In March, President Tinubu proposed the bill titled, “A Bill for an Act to Prescribe the Salaries, Allowances and Fringe Benefits of Judicial Office Holders in Nigeria and for Related Matters,” to the House of Representatives. The National Assembly approved the bill in June, paving the way for a 300% salary increase for judicial officers at both federal and state levels.

Senator Lado commented on the new legislation, stating, “This extraordinary move underscores Mr. President’s absolute prioritization of the welfare of Nigerian workers above all else.” He highlighted President Tinubu’s consistent efforts to improve conditions for the nation’s workforce, noting the recent assent to the National Minimum Wage Bill of ₦70,000 as a prime example.

The new Act aims to adjust the financial compensation for judicial officers in line with contemporary economic realities. It also amends the Certain Political, Public and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.), Act, No.6, 2002, removing provisions specific to judicial office holders.

Lado praised the President’s decision, calling it a “landmark achievement” that reflects Tinubu’s commitment to recognizing and compensating those in critical roles appropriately. “By prioritizing the financial well-being of our judicial officers, Mr. President is not only reinforcing the integrity of our justice system but also setting a new standard for leadership that truly values the hard work and sacrifices of all Nigerian workers,” Lado added.

Under President Tinubu’s administration, enhancing worker welfare has become a cornerstone of national progress. His administration’s policies are seen as a driving force for uplifting millions, ensuring fair compensation and improved working conditions for all.

Lado also acknowledged the contributions of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Rt. Hon. Abass Tajudeen, and the 10th National Assembly in passing the bill. He called on judicial officers to continue their efforts in delivering swift and fair justice, emphasizing the judiciary’s role as the “hope of the common man.”
