Three Nigerians Arrested in Libya for Drug Trafficking
Three Nigerian nationals have been arrested by police in southern Libya on charges of drug trafficking, according to a report by Migrant Rescue Watch posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, April 13.
The suspects were apprehended in Samnu, a town in the Murzuq district near Libya’s southern borders, during a targeted police operation. Authorities allege that the trio were found in possession of a quantity of hashish believed to have been intended for distribution.
Samnu and the wider Murzuq region have long been known as a hotspot for smuggling and human trafficking due to their strategic location near Libya’s frontiers with neighboring countries. The arrests form part of ongoing security measures aimed at combating drug-related crimes and curbing illegal cross-border trafficking activities.
While the names of the suspects have not been released, police confirmed that the case has been transferred to the public prosecution for further investigation and legal proceedings.
