Terrorists Slaughter Nigerian Police Inspector in Kaduna as Wife and Sister-in-Law Remain in Captivity

A Nigerian police inspector, Domfa Chirtip, who was abducted on Friday, July 4, 2025, alongside his wife and sister-in-law, has been brutally murdered by his captors in the Kateri area of Kachia Local Government Area in Kaduna State. His body was discovered on Saturday morning during a recovery operation led by the Divisional Police Officer of the Kateri Division and his team.

According to a senior police source, Chirtip’s body was found lifeless and abandoned by the roadside. The source expressed deep sorrow over the loss and criticized the Nigeria Police Force for failing to prioritize the rescue of kidnapped officers, while focusing instead on cracking down on internal calls for improved welfare and working conditions.

“May his soul and the souls of all faithful departed officers rest in peace,” the source said. “But while the force is quick to discipline officers demanding better welfare, it shows little urgency in rescuing kidnapped colleagues. The officer’s wife and sister-in-law are still being held, and no concrete steps have been taken to secure their release.”

The incident highlights the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria and the increasing risk faced even by security personnel. Many police officers have recently spoken out anonymously about poor salaries, inadequate working conditions, and the lack of support for families of slain colleagues.

In a related development, SaharaReporters earlier reported that the police leadership has launched efforts to suppress internal dissent ahead of a planned nationwide protest set for July 21. A serving police constable revealed that a covert roll call has been initiated to identify junior officers who may support the demonstration. The officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the move is intended to preemptively silence discontent within the ranks.

The killing of Inspector Chirtip has further fueled anger and despair among rank-and-file officers, many of whom feel abandoned by the system they serve.
