Tension in Benue as LG Chairman Stops Thanksgiving Service for SGF Akume
In Benue State, the abrupt cancellation of a thanksgiving service in honor of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), orchestrated by Unongu Simon, the Caretaker Chairman of Guma Local Government Area, has stirred anxiety.
The service, scheduled for Sunday at NKST Church in Daudu, was to include a grand reception for the SGF. However, in a statewide radio announcement, Chairman Unongo cited security concerns and ordered the church to suspend the event.
He further mandated that any public gatherings in the area require official approval from his office.
Despite this directive, the event’s organizers declared their intent to proceed as planned. Lazarus Asema, a member of the planning committee, confirmed, “The venue and time remain unchanged at NKST Church Daudu.”
Daudu, near Makurdi and hosting an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp due to herdsmen attacks, remains on edge as the situation unfolds.
