Tension as Anyanwu, Ude-Okoye Clash at BoT Meeting
A heated confrontation broke out at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting on Wednesday as the battle for the party’s National Secretary position intensified. The clash between Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye occurred at the PDP national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja.
Ude-Okoye arrived at the meeting before Anyanwu and acting National Chairman Ambassador Iliya Damagum. However, tensions escalated when Anyanwu arrived, leading to Ude-Okoye being forced out by supporters of his rival.
The dispute stems from Anyanwu’s departure from the National Secretary position to contest the Imo State governorship election, which he lost. In his absence, the PDP South-East Caucus endorsed Ude-Okoye as his replacement, sparking controversy over the rightful occupant of the position.
Legal battles have further complicated the situation. On December 20, 2024, an Appeal Court in Enugu upheld a High Court ruling that removed Anyanwu and affirmed Ude-Okoye as the legitimate PDP National Secretary. In response, Anyanwu has filed for a Stay of Execution and has taken the matter to the Supreme Court.
