Supreme Court Verdict: Apapa-Led Labour Party Congratulates Tinubu, Taunts Obi
The Lamidi Apapa-led faction within the Labour Party (LP) has extended their heartfelt congratulations to President Bola Tinubu following his victory at the Supreme Court. The group expressed its belief that the court’s decision, which affirmed the election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the February 25, 2023 presidential election, was well-deserved.
The Apapa-led group did not miss the opportunity to taunt LP’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, along with his legal team, describing their election petition as “the worst in Nigeria’s history.”
Abayomi Arabambi, the spokesperson for the group, emphasized the swiftness of the dismissal of Peter Obi’s petition, stating that it took less than 120 seconds for the justices of the apex court to reach this decision.
The legal battle had escalated to the Supreme Court after Obi and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Atiku Abubakar, challenged the results of the last presidential election, contesting issues such as double nomination, alleged certificate forgery, non-transmission of results electronically, and the 25% vote threshold in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
However, on Thursday, the panel led by Justice John Okoro at the apex court unanimously dismissed all the appeals by Atiku and Obi, deeming them lacking in merit, and subsequently upheld President Tinubu’s electoral victory.
In their statement, the Apapa-led group praised President Bola Tinubu’s victory, hailing it as a testament to hard work, resilience, dedication, and love for the nation. They also extended congratulations to Atiku, acknowledging his valiant effort in the election, while characterizing him as a veteran.
Conversely, the group criticized Peter Obi for submitting a “meaningless petition,” which was swiftly dismissed by the Supreme Court justices in a mere two minutes.
