Students, traders crushed to death in Ondo accident
Not less than eight persons including students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba in Ondo State have been reported dead in a road accident that involved a trailer on Saturday.
Students and traders were said to have been crushed to death after the trailer rammed into shops near the entrance gate of the university.
According to reports, the truck was coming from Ikare Akoko town in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of the State before it lost control.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Spokesman, ASP Tee-Leo Ikoro, said eight bodies have been recovered from the scene.
Ikoro added a search is still going on to recover other victims who are trapped inside some of the shops.
Meanwhile, the management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, has postponed till further notice the institution’s examination scheduled for January 24.
According to a statement signed by the Acting Registrar of the institution, Opeoluwa Akinfemiwa, the postponement was necessitated by the trailer
accident that claimed the lives of about 10 students of the university.

He noted that the institution has already informed the state government about the unfortunate incident.
He further stated that the institution will work with the government to prevent a reoccurrence.
Meanwhile, as a temporary measure, the management has also directed that the main gate be closed with immediate effect.
