14 Worshippers Killed in Trailer Accident During Prayers
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that at least 14 worshippers lost their lives when a trailer ran into a Jumaat congregation in Imawa town, Kura Local Government Area, on the Kano-Kaduna highway.
The accident occurred shortly after Friday prayers, around 1:50 PM. The trailer, bearing the number plate MKA 537XN, reportedly lost control, plowing into the worshippers.
According to Abdullahi Labaran, the FRSC Public Relations Officer in Kano, nine of the deceased were laid to rest on Friday afternoon. Several injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
The driver of the trailer remains at large, prompting a search by authorities.
Upon receiving a distress call, FRSC personnel, alongside other security agencies, swiftly responded to the scene to conduct rescue operations and provide medical assistance.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Sector Commander, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. He reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to road safety and urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future.
