Stop This Assault on Our Traditional Institutions, APC Tells Soludo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over the indefinite suspension of Igwe Damian Onwuamaeze Ezeani, the traditional ruler of Neni, by Anambra State Governor, Prof Charles Soludo. The suspension was reportedly in response to Igwe Ezeani conferring a chieftaincy title on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, a member of the APC.

APC’s Zonal Publicity Secretary in Anambra Central, Igboeli Arinze Napoleon, issued a statement denouncing the governor’s actions, labeling them as “an attempt to muscle traditional institutions and drag them into the murky waters of Anambra politics.”

Napoleon argued that the use of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Law to suspend Igwe Ezeani displayed a lack of respect for revered traditional institutions. He emphasized that such actions could adversely impact the peace and development of the state.

The statement read, “Hiding under the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Law to suspend the cultural custodian of Neni smacks of an attempt to witch-hunt Igwe Ezeani simply because he conferred a title on Senator Ubah.”

The APC representative questioned the selective enforcement of Section 2 C of the law and its relevance. He expressed concerns about the government interfering in traditional affairs and suggested that such interference could lead to traditional rulers becoming mere instruments of the government.

The APC urged Governor Soludo to reconsider the suspension, stating, “The Anambra Central APC is thus calling on Governor Soludo to stop this assault on our traditional institutions by repudiating the suspension of Igwe of Neni, as well as reinstating him to the throne of his fathers.”
