“Stop Her from Using My Name, Alison Madueke” Diezani’s Ex-Husband Tells Court
Rear Admiral Alison Amaechina Madueke has taken legal action to prevent his ex-wife, Diezani Alison-Madueke, from using his first name (Alison) and surname (Madueke) after their divorce. He filed a petition in the High Court of Lagos, seeking an injunction that would require Diezani to revert to her pre-marital surname, Agama, and publicly announce the change in national newspapers in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
The case, filed under suit number LD/15144HD/2024, argues that Diezani’s continued use of Madueke’s name could cause significant legal and financial harm to the Rear Admiral, given her ongoing criminal trials in both countries.
The couple ceased living together in May 2015, and Diezani filed for divorce in November 2021, citing irretrievable breakdown of marriage. The divorce was finalized in April 2022 by Hon. Justice A.A. Ozegya of the High Court of Nassarawa State.
Rear Admiral Madueke’s petition highlights that Diezani’s persistent use of his name is misleading the public, creating embarrassment, and tarnishing his reputation. He notes that despite their legal separation over two years ago, Diezani has continued to use his name without consent, falsely suggesting an ongoing relationship.
In December 2023, Madueke’s solicitors, Messrs Foundation Chambers, formally requested Diezani to stop using his name and revert to her maiden name. The Rear Admiral now seeks a court order to enforce this change and safeguard his public image amidst Diezani’s legal controversies.

Going by the report, one wonders why someone who filed a legal suit for divorce, and the request granted by the court, would continue using the same name of the divorced partner 🤷.
