Nigeria Receives $52.88 Million in Recovered Assets Linked to Diezani Alison-Madueke

 

 

The Nigerian government has officially received $52.88 million in recovered assets tied to former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke. The assets were returned from the United States and were formally presented at a signing ceremony held in Abuja on Friday.

 

During the event, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, announced that $50 million of the recovered funds will be allocated to the development of a rural electrification project through the World Bank. The remaining $2 million will be used to support the International Institute of Justice, enhancing the country’s justice system and efforts to combat corruption.

 

Fagbemi emphasized that the asset return is a key achievement in the ongoing collaboration between Nigeria and the United States to fight corruption and strengthen the rule of law. He also highlighted the significant role President Bola Tinubu is playing in tackling corruption in the country.

 

U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, urged the Nigerian government to ensure that the recovered assets are properly monitored and effectively utilized to benefit the Nigerian people.
