Fatal Kano Road Accident Leaves 25 Dead, Dozens Injured
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Kano, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the death of 25 individuals following a horrific road accident involving commuters traveling from Maiduguri, Borno State, to southern Nigeria.
The accident, which occurred near the Dangwaro International Market in Kano City, involved an IVECO trailer bearing registration number XA 311 ZB, transporting passengers alongside livestock. Reports indicate that the trailer collided with another vehicle before somersaulting, resulting in the devastating loss of life.
Abdullahi stated that the FRSC received an emergency call at approximately 03:15 am today, prompting a swift response by rescue personnel who arrived at the scene by 03:30 am. He attributed the cause of the accident to factors including excessive speed, dangerous driving practices, and overloading, which collectively led to a loss of control.
Of the injured, 53 individuals are currently receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, while the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue for identification and further arrangements.
During the rescue operation, recovery efforts yielded various items, including six motorcycles, 10 mobile phones, animals such as goats and rams, maize, and N400,000 in cash, all of which are now in police custody.
The FRSC has issued a stern warning to motorists regarding the safe transportation of goods, animals, and passengers, emphasizing the need for adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
