Stay in PDP, support Tinubu’s 2027 bid — Osun Leaders of Thought advises Gov Adeleke
The Osun Leaders of Thought (OLT) has urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid for the 2027 presidential race. In a statement released on Friday and signed by the group’s Public Affairs Chief, Adesola Adigun, the group cautioned against the mounting pressure on the governor to switch allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The OLT argued that such a move could destabilize both the state and national political landscapes.
The group emphasized that Governor Adeleke should continue his efforts for the people of Osun within the PDP and reject any calls to defect to the APC. It reaffirmed its support for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign, noting that Osun, being Tinubu’s ancestral home, had a moral obligation to back his second-term ambitions.
While advocating for support for the president, OLT warned that a defection would not benefit either Governor Adeleke or President Tinubu. The group pointed out that the governor’s political appeal in Osun was unmatched and critical to the state’s political dynamics. They also highlighted ongoing internal crises within the APC, rivalries among key Osun political figures, and the existing bipartisan sentiment among voters, which could be disrupted by any political shifts.
The OLT stressed that Adeleke’s popularity was integral to winning Osun for Tinubu in 2027. They cautioned that re-aligning the governor with former political rivals in the APC could reopen old wounds and fuel existing tensions.
In conclusion, the group proposed a strategic alliance between Governor Adeleke and the presidency without requiring a party switch. They called for mutual support between the two leaders, emphasizing that defection was not a necessary component of their collaboration.
