Rivers PDP National Assembly Caucus Endorses Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid
The Rivers State caucus in the National Assembly has formally pledged its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027. In a statement jointly signed by its members and read by Senator Barry Mpigi, who represents Rivers South-East, the lawmakers declared their commitment to backing Tinubu, citing the achievements recorded under his “Renewed Hope” agenda.
The caucus, made up of two senators and seven members of the House of Representatives — all from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) — said their endorsement was based on the president’s successes in addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges and promoting national progress. They urged other politicians with presidential ambitions to step aside, insisting that Tinubu’s leadership offers the clearest path to “prosperity” and “progress” for the country.
In their statement, the lawmakers expressed gratitude to Tinubu for his confidence in former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). They praised Wike’s performance, citing Tinubu’s public description of him as the “Master of Infrastructure.”
Reflecting on the state of the nation when Tinubu assumed office, the caucus highlighted the economic challenges inherited, including a massive national debt, high inflation rates, and decaying infrastructure. They pointed to the previous administration’s reliance on deficit financing, particularly the N22.7 trillion printed by the Central Bank of Nigeria between 2015 and 2023, as a key contributor to Nigeria’s financial woes.
The lawmakers argued that Tinubu’s economic policies are effectively reversing these issues, noting visible improvements such as declining inflation rates, a reduction in foreign debt, and optimistic growth projections supported by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). They stressed that with more time, Tinubu’s policies would lead to even greater improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
The caucus also commended the president’s intervention in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, describing it as a timely move that has opened a path to peace. Recalling their efforts during the 2023 general election, they emphasized their active role in campaigning under Wike’s leadership to secure Tinubu’s victory.
The lawmakers who signed the declaration of support include Barry Mpigi, Allwell Onyesoh, Dumnamene Dekor, Solomon Bob, Felix Nwaeke, Kelechi Nwogu, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, and Blessing Amadi.
